About
I am Zakir Hussain Talpur, passionate about chemistry and materials science, with a strong focus on discovery, innovation, and sustainability. I have completed an M.S. degree in Chemistry from UC Berkeley. My academic path also includes a Master’s degree in Analytical Chemistry from East China University of Science & Technology in Shanghai and a Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry from Quaid-i-Azam University and the University of Sindh. These diverse experiences, spanning multiple countries and academic cultures, have given me both a solid technical foundation and a global perspective on science.
My research spans synthesis, thin films and surface chemistry, nanomaterials, porous materials such as metal-organic frameworks, and analytical chemistry and spectroscopy, with applications ranging from catalysis to environmental sustainability. Alongside my research, I served as a Teaching Assistant at UC Berkeley, where I mentored undergraduates during their first laboratory experiences. Teaching has been an integral part of my journey, allowing me to inspire curiosity, foster confidence, and help train the next generation of scientists.
I view science as more than laboratory work—it is a way to connect knowledge with impact. I am especially drawn to the intersection of chemistry, sustainability, and innovation, and to the possibilities of interdisciplinary collaboration in creating meaningful solutions to global challenges.
